Broken Things, 2019
In this series, I photographed every object that was broken in my home over the course of a year. An accidental breakage can leave feelings of remorse and sadness but instead of discarding or trying to fix the object, I wanted to memorialize it and appreciate its new flawed and damaged beauty. I wanted to celebrate that’s now become something else; maybe it’s no longer fulfilling its original purpose, but it still has value, it isn’t worthless - things change. These photographs are silent, dark and quiet and are influenced by Dutch Still Life and Memento Mori paintings.
